Nick Hansen, Arrowhead tennis teaching professional discusses the kick serve with the help of Wells Patten in this tennis tip video. To hit the kick serve, use the continental grip and brush up the back of the ball, similar to how you would hit a topspin forehand. This will kick the ball up high with topspin when it bounces, this is a great serve to hit to player’s backhands, because most have trouble with the high backhand, and you can hopefully draw a short ball. Make sure to look up at the ball after you toss it a little bit behind your head, lean back slightly, and let the toss drop a little bit so that you are able to hit up on the ball. Use a smooth, rapid movement of your wrist, keeping your arm loose so that you can snap up with pronation to create the spin. Enjoy hitting the kick serve!
